a family operation.

5th Generation Farmers

Located in the beautiful Klickitat County, our family’s cattle are raised start to finish, calf to your plate, on grass grown right here at our farm. Established in the early 1900s in Wasco County our herd has been managed by our family for five generations, represented by the same AM brand that has brought our family together for many years. Our long lines and deep roots in the Columbia Gorge have provided a unique pride in the beef raised by our family. This pride is why we track our herds’ genetics and manage their feed so we can ensure only the best beef we can produce makes it to your plate. Our Mission is to provide healthy and delicious beef to our community that will bring families together for generations.

Hay

Hay is a large part of what we do! We supply hay to a range of animals, from Alpacas to Zebras. Yes, we have a hay customer with Zebras.

We have irrigated perennial Orchardgrass based hays, harvested two to three times a year. We are also one of the biggest and very few grass hay producers in the Klickitat valley.

We also produce a lot of annual hay, consuming ~500 ton ourselves, available in both little and big bales. Following our regenerative approach to farming, we have moved away from the monocultured stands of barley or triticale to a diverse polyculture crop for a more rounded, better quality forage.

Grain

The majority of the grain we produce is wheat sold to Mid Columbia Producers. It is transported down river, loaded on ships, and sent around the Pacific Rim.

We sell some feed stuffs such as rolled barley and wheat to individuals, and are working to expand our cropping rotation to include oilseed and lequme crops. This would allow us to make a complete mixed feed ration available for all walks of animals.

Cattle

Bowdish Cattle are born and raised on our farm. They winter on hay grown by us and summer on irrigated pastures. We rotationally graze with a holistic grazing management plan, improving soil health and forage nutrition. We calve in August and September on these irrigated fields, giving the calf the best start to life we can.
